May 22, 2023 — Today, Grammy award-winning producer Andre “Dre” Lyon (of super production team Cool & Dre) announced that he joined Lobus, the leading asset management platform for cultural assets, as a partner. Today, Lobus helps its users manage over $9 billion in assets.

In his role, he will work with Lobus to pioneer a new model that enables musicians, entertainers, creators and more to bring their assets to market as alternative investment opportunities. Lobus is reimagining the infrastructure of investing, expanding beyond stocks, bonds, and commodities to establish culture as an investable asset class and a new type of perpetual contract that can facilitate multi-generational transfers of wealth for creators themselves.

Lobus is at the forefront of revolutionizing the economic framework for cultural assets in an era where artists and creators have become brands. Similar to how Fortune 500 companies issue shares, artists and creators can now issue shares for their music catalogs, digital content, art, and other valuable cultural assets. This breakthrough enables individuals to access and engage with this asset class for the first time, while also providing artists, musicians, filmmakers, influencers, and others with the means to monetize their intellectual property and generate wealth that spans multiple generations.

“I am thrilled to partner with Lobus in merging culture with finance,” Dre said. “We are entering a transformative era where songs from two decades ago are being rediscovered and propelled to overnight success through platforms like TikTok and Twitch. By simply selling our catalogs, artists are missing out on the potential rewards. We need a model that allows us — the creators, the originators — to remain connected to our assets and continue growing our work during this extraordinary period of growth. We pour our blood, sweat and tears into our work, and it is only fair that our future generations benefit from our sacrifices and artistic contributions. Lobus is the new paradigm.”

As a partner at Lobus, Dre will leverage his extensive connections and industry expertise to facilitate the introduction of premium assets to the market. He will serve as the primary point of contact for artists, creators, and entertainment professionals seeking to monetize their music catalogs, digital content, and other intellectual property within the new investment model. Dre will also collaborate with Lobus to enhance the platform’s expansion, advocate for the artist’s perspective, and ensure that creators retain the necessary ownership as they grow into multi-hyphenate brands.

In this new model, institutions and individuals invest in today’s prominent brands, diversifying their portfolios and gaining exclusive experiences across various cultural sectors. Simultaneously, musicians and creators gain access to high-quality financial, media, and advisory services to nurture their intellectual property and foster meaningful connections with their audiences.

“Lobus and Dre share the same mission,” Lobus Co-Founder and CEO Lori Hotz. “We are both committed to using our collective experience across finance, culture and technology to help creators build generational wealth and reach new entrepreneurial heights by aligning incentives. At Lobus, artists are not disintermediated from their value.”

“As an artist, Dre understands the true value of his art and how those assets can drive economic growth and create a new paradigm,” Lobus Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer Sarah Wendell Sherrill said. “With his partnership, we feel confident that we are establishing a robust ownership model for artists and empowering them to be the true founders of the work they produce.”

The multi platinum producer also plans to release his long-awaited, debut album “Nah For Real” at the end of the year. Dre’s partnership with Lobus comes shortly after the acclaimed producer and entrepreneur — who has produced for the likes of Beyoncé, JAY-Z, Drake Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B and more — joined ForbesBLK’s Advisory Council as a strategic thought partner.
